Unit Assessment Guide

In order to demonstrate institutional effectiveness and meet the SACS requirements and standards for accreditation, all units of Brenau University, academic as well as administrative, must be prepared to demonstrate that they have in place an effective planning and evaluation process which responds to the SACS directives. This must include, for each unit:

− a clearly defined unit mission statement which supports the institution’s mission and goals and which, in the case of academic programs, is appropriate to collegiate education
− for degree programs: established learning outcomes that are consistent with the institution’s mission
− for academic and administrative support units: annual administrative objectives that support the purpose of each unit
− procedures (means of assessment) to evaluate the extent to which the educational outcomes or annual administrative objectives are being effectively and efficiently achieved in each unit
− demonstrated use of results from assessment to improve educational programs or the effectiveness of administrative/educational support services and to guide decision-making and budgeting
